Dignity Health's Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Centers offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) as part of comprehensive wound treatment plans. HBO is a medical treatment that increases the amount of oxygen in the patient's blood, allowing it to pass more easily through the plasma into wounds to heal them. During HBO, patients breathe 100% oxygen in a pressurized room or chamber, increasing the oxygen levels in the blood. This "super oxygenated" blood carries oxygen throughout the body, promoting healing, fighting infection, and stimulating the growth of new capillaries. HBO therapy is typically administered five days a week for approximately four to six weeks.
