Methodology

HBOT Finder is the only unaffiliated hyperbaric oxygen therapy evidence tracker. This page explains what that means in practice: how we stay independent, how we grade evidence, and how the directory data is collected and verified.

Independence

No clinic pays to be listed, ranked, or featured. We accept no sponsorships from chamber manufacturers, clinic chains, or hyperbaric trade groups, and no clinic can pay to change what we write about the evidence. Where the site carries affiliate links (on product comparisons, never on safety or evidence pages), they are disclosed on the page. Listing in the directory is free and based solely on a facility operating publicly in the United States.

How we grade evidence

The evidence atlas covers 24 conditions — every FDA-approved indication plus the major investigational and off-label uses — with 502 citations to primary literature. Each review follows the same rules:

  • FDA-approved vs investigational is always labeled. The 14 approved indications are kept strictly separate from off-label uses, and off-label pages say so in the title.
  • Randomized controlled trials outrank everything else. Case series, animal studies, and clinic testimonials are identified as such and never presented as proof of efficacy.
  • Negative and null results are reported. If the best trial for a condition failed, the page says it failed.
  • Every clinical claim cites its source — a linked study with a year, not "research shows."

Directory data & verification

The directory currently indexes 1,569 U.S. clinics. Data comes from public listings, clinic websites, and primary sources, then is verified editorially:

  • UHMS accreditation is matched against the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society's published facility list — 180 accredited facilities are flagged, 57 of them accredited with distinction.
  • Chamber type (hard-shell vs soft-shell, treatment pressure in ATA) is recorded per clinic wherever it can be confirmed, cross-referenced against FDA 510(k) chamber clearances.
  • Pricing is published only when verified — 82 clinics currently have checked pricing data, including clinics that we confirmed do not disclose prices.

Counts shown on this site are queried live from our database rather than typed into the page, so they stay consistent everywhere they appear. The full directory is also published as an open dataset (CC BY 4.0).

What this site is not

HBOT Finder does not provide medical advice, does not operate clinics, and does not sell chambers. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has real, well-established uses and a large gray zone of unproven ones — our job is to keep those two categories clearly separated. Talk to a licensed physician before starting any treatment.
