About Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
ChristianaCare's Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy as a medical treatment that uses pressurized oxygen to help heal wounds. During the therapy, patients breathe 100% oxygen in a comfortable, see-through chamber, typically at two to three times the normal atmospheric pressure. This increases the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream, promoting wound healing, controlling infection, and forming new blood vessels. Each session lasts 90 to 120 minutes, administered five days a week, and the number of treatments varies based on the medical condition. Patients can relax, listen to music, watch TV, or nap during the treatment.
