About Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE, offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy as part of its Wound Healing Center. This therapy involves breathing 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber, increasing the amount of oxygen the blood can carry to promote healing and fight infection. The program is accredited by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, indicating high standards of safety and training. Great Plains Health was the first hyperbaric medicine program in Nebraska, starting in 1986, and is the only 24/7 program between Kansas City, Denver, and Minneapolis. The therapy is used to treat various conditions, including diabetic wounds, gangrene, latent radiation injury, non-healing wounds, skin grafts, failed flaps, burns, infections, carbon monoxide poisoning, severe anemia, crush injuries, and compartment syndrome. The Wound Healing Center utilizes a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating advanced wound care treatments and therapies. Great Plains Health also provides urgent care for emergency cases such as carbon monoxide poisoning, crush injuries, and sudden vision loss. They aim to salvage limbs and prevent amputations. The program also addresses chronic issues like radiation therapy side effects, bone infections, and diabetic foot ulcers. Physicians at Great Plains Health Wound Healing Center include Eduardo Freitas, MD, Michael Simonson, MD, and Jacob Wiesen, MD.
